The Power in Finishing What You Start

“I was excited to start, but now I don't even think I have what it takes to finish”. How many times have you heard that?  See, it’s easy to get started on something with the right intention, but before you know it, life happens, situations happen, emotions happen and it seems like the easiest thing to do is just to quit.

As individuals when we start anything the goal is always to say “YES”,  I'm going to accomplish this. At the beginning of the year, you make new year's resolutions right? What is the percentage of people that quit by the end of January? Close to 80%. When you state a goal, it looks great in hindsight and when you're thinking about it, but when you realize what it takes to complete the task, it just doesn't get done.

Studies have shown that only 8% of people who set out to achieve a goal actually finish.  We work with singles all the time and when they set out on their journey to attract love, they want to give up along the way. Why is that? They don't feel the same along the journey anymore that they did when they wanted to get started.

The same is true for students now that they are embarking on a new journey, whether it be college, university, out of high school, starting life, they don't know what is going to take place on this new path. They are not only faced with the stresses of a new school environment but they are also faced with the pressure of not wanting to let their family down. Now that they're adults, they're the ones that have to be responsible for their own destiny. And they can learn how to be more effective and not just set goals by focusing on the accomplishment they desire.

We share our proprietary P.O.W.E.R.© Method with our clients which teaches how to find your power and actually finish what you start, and today we will share with you the P in P.O.W.E.R.©, Patience.

But first, ask yourself, are you going to be the 8% or the 80%?

Let's understand why you should not just have a goal, but stay committed to finishing what you start:

  • You’ll develop confidence
  • You’ll avoid procrastination
  • You’ll feel fulfilled because you will be happier
  • Less anxiety because you pushed through the fear of failure

Why should you have patience? Why is this so important?

It's super important to have patience with yourself when you are looking to accomplish anything. Have you ever heard the saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? Well, it’s true. You cannot expect to reap a harvest today from the seeds you planted yesterday.

Sometimes your expectations can be so lofty, and since you are living in a microwave type world, where you expect things to happen quickly, you put in little to no effort and expect results. But when the results don’t come as you expected you want to throw in the towel. However, there's another side of that story that is hard work, diligence and effort over a sustained amount of time in order to achieve success. THAT is what requires patience.

And as we all know, anyone who has succeeded or accomplished a goal (you know that 8%), understood the importance of being patient with themselves. Don't give up on yourself when things don't go your way. Challenges are meant to derail you and test your consistency. The 80% gave up because they did not prepare for the challenges as much as they prepared for the desired outcome.

Success comes when opportunity meets preparation and when the preparation is missing it always has to be replaced with PATIENCE.
